Welcome to the
September is an exciting month for students, parents, and everyone involved in education. It’s the first official month of the school year and all students have a clean attendance record. Now is a great opportunity for students, parents, and educators to set up positive school habits that enable great school attendance throughout the school year, and for many years to come. That’s why September has been named Attendance Awareness Month, and we’re excited to celebrate and support the fourth annual campaign to improve school attendance nationwide.
There’s been a lot of news this summer about the chronic absenteeism that’s rampant across the country in our schools. Absences, whether excused or unexcused, have a proven correlation to lack of literacy in elementary students, multiple failed classes in middle school, and eventual drop out for high school students.
AttendanceWorks.org is leading the charge for the fourth annual Attendance Awareness Month in an effort to encourage schools and communities to remember that relationships matter for Attendance. They have a vast number of resources and information that you can use to educate your community on the importance of regular attendance. We’ve compiled a few of our favorite resources from their website that we hope you will check out:
The Learning Earning Achievement Program combines data-driven decision making with promoting positive school climate – we use a combination of data analysis, ongoing teacher coaching, and student reward to achieve these results.
