Today, Pearson announced that it has executed an agreement to sell the Student Information Systems business unit to Vista Equity Partners, a US-based private equity firm with offices in San Francisco, Chicago and Austin. We expect the sale process to close sometime in early Q3 of 2015.

This change in ownership represents a great opportunity for us to build upon PowerSchool’s position as the most widely-used SIS in K12 education. PowerSchool serves over 40 million teachers, parents and students every day, in more than 70 countries around the globe.

PowerSchool’s customer retention rate is among the highest in the industry – more than 99% of PowerSchool users choose to stay with PowerSchool year after year. The PowerSchool online user community has more than 330K active members, and PowerSchool User Groups (PSUGs), sponsored by PowerSchool users themselves, are growing in almost every region of the country and around the world.

Vista Equity Partners has extensive experience advising software companies and helping them successfully transition from parent corporations into standalone businesses that achieve ambitious growth goals. We look forward to working with them to achieve this outcome for our group and the PowerSchool product family.

This change will not affect the dedication and innovative spirit of the PowerSchool team! We are excited about the opportunity to be part of Vista and to build on our incredible success in the K12 market – bringing new technologies and quality products and services to 13 million students and 40 million users around the globe. Teachers, parents and students will always remain the focus of our SIS business.
